How does the skirt mount to the lift table?

The skirt has a 3" flange pocket at the top and bottom that attaches to the side of the lift table. Slide the flat steel bar we provide into the pocket, then bolt the skirt to the table every 12" with the Tek screws we also provide. If you do not choose flat steel bar mounting, the skirt still has the pocket so you can mount it another way.

Does the skirt need to attach at the bottom?

Usually not. In most installations only the top is attached and the skirt's weight keeps it on the floor. Optional bottom weight bars can be ordered and added after the skirt is installed.

What is the difference between an internal and external fold?

• The folds of the bellows can face outward or inward.
• Internal folds need room inside the table for the folds. For example, a table with a 50" x 50" top and a 50" x 50" base will not work with an internal fold.
• Pit lifts mounted in the floor almost always need an internal fold.
• Internal folds have the smallest footprint.
• External folds are the most common, and the best choice if you are not sure an internal fold will work.

Does OSHA require skirts on scissor lift tables?

OSHA regulates pinch points, which it defines as points where a finger or other body part could be caught between two moving parts. Pinch points can cause severe injuries, including amputation.

The scissors on a lift table are a serious pinch point, so if a table, including a mobile scissor lift table, is not guarded with a skirt, OSHA will likely fine your facility. Skirting also gives your workers a safer place to work.

Which OSHA rule covers guarding pinch points?

OSHA does not name lift tables specifically. Its rules cover pinch points and shear points, which many machines have, and those points must be guarded to protect your people.
